Thuso Mbedu has landed her first international lead-role in an American series where she will play Cora.
“The Underground Railroad series follows Cora, a slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia. When Caesar, a recent arrival from Virginia, tells her about the Underground Railroad, they decide to take a terrifying risk and escape. Mbedu will star alongside Chase W. Dillon (Homer) and Aaron Pierre (Caesar).
This victory follows many golden victories in Mbedu’s career.
In 2018, she scooped a Golden Horn award for Best Actress (TV Drama) for her role as Winnie on Is’thunzi.
In 2018, she was listed as one of Forbes Africa’s under 30 creatives.
In 2018 and in 2019, Mbedu’s name made it to the International Emmy Awards nominations list.
And today she makes history as the first South African to play the lead in an American series.
