The 4th Annual RapidLion Film Festival launched on the 1st March at the Market Theatre. The red carpet affair welcomed guests with scores of red wine in Jo’burgs Newtown Precinct, where film lovers were treated to a screening of ‘The Last Victims’, a film directed by Maynard Kaark; written by Sean Robert Daniels. The film follows “a former member of South Africa’s infamous death squad, who must atone for his past when he helps one survivor search for the bodies of a missing anti-apartheid cell. Unaware that as they hunt for answers, they too are being hunted.”
In addition to showcasing African Films, Rapid Lion has collaborated with BRICS and promises to bring you BRICS Day on 6th March -a screening of BRICS films; from Empty House (China) + Q&A with producer Pan Webo; Before I forget (Brazil); Missing Girls (Russia); Two South Africans (SA) + Q&A with director Kevin Harris. Films from Amsterdam will be screened on the seventh(Amsterdam Day), and on the eighth, films by/about women will be shown. Be sure not to miss the festivities.
