MTV Shuga is coming back to your screens and Actor Spaces was at the premiere to get the lowdown on the new season of this eye opening Drama Series.

Now on its 5th season the story is set in South Africa at a fictional township called Zenzele; but there’s definitely nothing else fictional about Shuga Down South. Just like the previous seasons the storylines are hard-hitting and reflect what goes on in the everyday lives of young & old Africans; highlighting how one bad spare of a moment decision can affect the rest of your life. MTV Shuga has never fallen short of diversity, with its exceptional Pan-African casting, this season they took it a step further by opening the industry up and hosting open auditions for upcoming South African actors in October 2016 which saw 6 young hopefuls come out on top! Former cast members like Emmanuel Ikubese, Adesua Etomi, Mohau Mokoatle Cele & Nick Mutuma will be returning to the award winning show. Fans will get to see Tanzanian TV and radio personality Vanessa Mdee, come in to take on the role of “Storm”, who is the wife of a hot shot club owner played by South African actor Clint Brink.

You’ll also get to see a few familiar faces like Thuso Mbedu & Stephanie Sandows from SA’s soapie ‘Scandal’ & Actor/Presenter Phila Mazibuko who plays a DJ. On the red carpet most of the actors expressed how fortunate they are to have worked with such amazingly talented directors; Mmabatho Montsho, Thabang Moleya & Rea Rangaka who helped them bring out the truth in their characters.
Executive Director of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation; Georgia Arnold also emphasized that “Previous seasons of MTV Shuga have been proven to change young people’s behaviour and attitudes relating to safe sex and HIV”

Actor Spaces got to preview the 1st 3 episodes and we can definitely vouch that this will be an exciting season filled with lots of surprises and amazing talent! Shuga Down South Premieres on MTV Base on the 8th of March at 21:30. Don’t miss it!
