The Importance Of Training for Actors

Think of it this way, as an actor your BODY IS YOUR INSTRUMENT which you use for playing all sorts of characters whether it be on stage, film, tv and/or any other platforms. Now, in order to be able to understand how to use this instrument, you need training.

It is vital for you as an Actor to know and understand the techniques and skills involved within acting in order for you to be able to use them the correct way. A few of the things you as an actor must learn, is to be able to analyze your script, create the physicality of the character, memorize lines, how to listen and respond as if it’s the first time you are saying those words and how to create the emotional life of the character. Nothing should be fake when you act. It’s all about the reality of the present moment of the character’s life you’re playing. And in those imaginary circumstances, how does the character respond, feel, behave and what is his/her objective? Those are a few questions you as an actor should know and be able to answer relating to your character.

You don’t need to go to a University to get training. You can purchase the books which are used in Universities or better yet research for yourself and find out what interests you and study that, whether it’s Meisner, Method, Improv or Stanislavski to name a few techniques. The more you know, the better. The important part is to keep YOUR INSTRUMENT up to date and looked after.
