The Girl from St. Agnes: “The only saint… is in the name”

After months of anticipation, the season premiere of the South African-based Showmax original series: The Girl from St. Agnes is finally here.

The Girl from St Agnes is a dark murder mystery that follows the suspicious death of a fairly popular student, Lexi Summerveld, at a prestigious all-girls boarding school in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. In fear of tarnishing their reputation and being slowed into a national scandal, the school quickly declares it a tragic accident. However, drama teacher Kate Ballard doesn’t believe it. This sets off her quest for answers which inadvertently unearths many hidden truths that suggest foul play and multiple suspects who had different reasons for wanting the girl dead.

“The audience can expect something different! There’s nothing like The Girl from St. Agnes on television right now. It has powerful characters and a storyline that strongly addresses issues that need to be dealt with in our society,” says Makgotso M who plays Moipone –the fearless, outspoken and unapologetic leader within her friendship circle.

The eight-episode series, produced by Harriet Gavshon, is Showmax’s second locally-produced show and Quizzical Picture’s first original scripted drama for the video-on-demand platform. “The cast and crew really were amazing to work with. It was a bit tense and emotional at times because of the genre and that’s why being around such an amazing team that respected everyone’s process made it worthwhile.” Makgosto M added.

Audiences can expect to be on the edge of their seats with all the twists, turns and suspense embedded within the series.  Watch as the story unfolds on Showmax.
